According to Australian media reports, Symonds was seriously injured in a car accident. During this time he also got into controversies several times. Now, in 2009, Symonds was dropped from the Australian team after getting into a drunken brawl. He later became a part of the Indian reality show Bigg Boss. During this, he also made friends with Bollywood star Sunny Leone.

Symonds was a part of the fifth season of Bigg Boss as a guest show. He entered the Bigg Boss house on the 67th day and stayed there for two weeks. Before joining the show, Symonds said that he wanted to have fun with Sunny Leone on the show.
