Every 11 minutes a woman is killed by her close friends, now the UN Secretary General will put a stop to it!

United Nations. UN chief Antonio Guterres said that every 11 minutes a woman or girl is murdered by an intimate partner or family member. She said violence against women is the biggest “human rights violation” in the world and called on governments to implement a national action plan to tackle the problem.

The Secretary-General made the remarks ahead of the International Day for the “Elimination of Violence against Women” on 25 November. Guterres said, “Violence against women and girls is the biggest human rights violation in the world. Every 11 minutes, a woman or girl is killed by an intimate partner or family member, and we know that other pressures, from the COVID-19 pandemic to economic turmoil, undoubtedly lead to more physical and verbal abuse. Huh.”

Guterres’ comments come in the backdrop of the recent Shraddha Walkar murder case in India which has taken everyone by surprise. Guterres said, “This discrimination, violence and abuse that targets half the population has a heavy price to pay. It limits the participation of women and girls in every sphere of life, takes away their basic rights and freedoms and prevents equitable economic growth.
