Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the violence-hit Bogtui village of Birbhum on Thursday. He met the families of those who were burnt to death and assured them that the culprits would be caught and punished. Mamta said that she does not want to make excuses, she wants the arrest of those who are responsible. The Chief Minister said- I never thought that there could be so much barbarism in modern Bengal. Mother and child were killed. Alleging a big conspiracy, he spoke of strict action.

I want those responsible to be arrested and the policemen punished for their lapses. He also said that the witnesses should be given protection by the police from possible attacks.

It is worth noting that in the violence that followed the murder of a Trinamool leader, people were locked in their houses and set on fire, in which 10 people died. Those whose houses have been burnt, Mamta Banerjee announced to give one lakh rupees for the repair of their houses. He also promised jobs to the families of the victims. Significantly, after the violence on Tuesday, voice was raised against it all over the country.

However, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had gone to visit the area on Thursday but was stopped from entering Bogtui village. Chowdhury, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha and other party members were stopped at Sriniketan More near the village in Birbhum district, after which they sat on the road.
