The Gujarat High Court had in 2018 upheld the conviction of Manoj Kulkarni and 15 others in the Naroda Patiya riots case. Kulkarni, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, is currently out on bail.

Regarding the ticket given by the BJP, Payal Kulkarni said, “I am with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP state president C.R. Patil, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and all party workers and members. My mother is a councilor and has been associated with BJP for a long time. I too have participated in the election process in the past.

Payal said that if she wins the election, her priority will be to develop the constituency and address the problems of the local people. Payal’s mother and local councilor Reshma Kulkarni said that she will fully support her daughter and ensure that she wins. (Language)
