Congress’s question to the Election Commission

New Delhi. The Congress on Thursday said the Election Commission of India (EC) should explain to the people of the country why it has announced elections for Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assemblies on different dates even though the counting of votes in both the states is the same. It will be the same day. Congress’ Gujarat in-charge Raghu Sharma alleged that BJP got time to hold several rallies at official expense and public resources were misused in Gujarat.

Addressing a press conference at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters here, he said, “I want to thank the Election Commission for announcing the Gujarat elections despite pressure from the BJP-led government.” Sharma said the Election Commission, as a constitutional body, should explain why elections were announced on different dates when the counting of votes for elections in both the states would be on the same day.

Sharma said the Congress is working hard in Gujarat and the results of the elections in the state will be shocking. He also alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen are “BJP’s B-team” and their motive is only to reap votes. Sharma said that the contest in Gujarat will be between BJP and Congress. (Language)
