26 lives have been lost in the road accident this year at the place where Cyrus Mistry crashed

Accidents happen due to narrow road

According to police sources, the three-lane road near Surya river bridge suddenly turns two-lane after a turn, trapping most of the drivers. From Ghodbunder in Thane in Mumbai to Dapchatti in Palghar district, 62 people have been killed and 192 injured in the last one year in 100-km-long accidents. A Maharashtra Highway police official said the stretch of highway near Charoti on which Mistry’s car had crashed on September 4. Since the beginning of this year, 26 people have died in 25 serious accidents in this area. He said that 25 people have died in 35 serious accidents in the same period near Chinchoti and 11 people have lost their lives in 10 accidents near Manor.

Most of the accidents are due to careless driving.

There have been many black spots all over the highway. Police officials believe that most of the accidents are due to reckless driving. Significantly, the accident happened when Cyrus Mistry was coming to Mumbai from a Parsi temple in Udvada, Gujarat, in his Mercedes car. 54-year-old Mistry’s Mercedes rammed into a road divider on the bridge of Surya river in Charoti village near Kasa in Palghar.

4.03 lakh road accidents in the country in 2021

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, there were 4.03 lakh road accidents in the country in 2021 with 1,55,622 deaths. Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of deaths at 24,711, while Tamil Nadu had the highest number of road accidents at 57,090. Earlier in 2020, there were 3.66 lakh road accidents in the country in which 1,31,714 people died. According to the World Bank, an average of 4.5 lakh road accidents occur in India every year in which about 1.5 lakh people die.
