Gmail New Feature: Gmail now lets you make quick calls, at times, you might have felt the need to call the sender of the email to clear something or to remind you of the same. Google now lets you do just that with a new update to Gmail.
Google says that the update now lets users make audio and video calls from within the app. On the Gmail app, users can now see audio and video call options from the Chats tab itself. Once a user clicks on any of these options, they will be able to make a call with the person concerned. Google has not yet allowed group calls on its platform.
Gmail Calls: How To Make Audio/Video Calls?
- First of all, make sure that you are using the latest version of Gmail on your Android or iOS device.
- Next, you have to open Gmail and tap on the “Chats” tab. For Google Workspace users, this is activated by default. Regular users will have to enable the Chats option by going to Settings.
- Under the Chat section, you’ll see all the conversations listed. Now tap on one.

- By tapping on the phone or video icon on the top corner, you will be able to make an audio or video call.
- When you receive calls on Gmail, you’ll see a floating call notification just like a normal phone call. Gmail will also show you notifications for missed calls and alerts.

Gmail Calls: What you need to know
Note that audio and video calls are only allowed on mobile devices. Hence, users can only make calls from the Gmail app on Android and iOS devices. These features are not yet being provided on the web client version. Gmail calls will be internet based like WhatsApp and Google Duo calls. Therefore, you will need good internet connectivity.
