UP Elections 2022: In the area where BJP won 74% seats, there is a big problem in front of BJP

The importance of Western UP has increased significantly in the Uttar Pradesh Election 2022 as the political situation has become quite complex after the farmers’ agitation. According to political analysts, in the 2014, 2017 and 2019 elections, the Jat vote was outright in favor of the BJP and in western UP, the BJP wiped out all political parties; But this time the situation is different in the 2022 assembly elections. After the agitation against the agriculture bill, there is resentment among the Jats against the government and the effect of that resentment can be seen in the elections as well. Also, the alliance of SP and RLD can also put BJP in trouble.

Let us tell you that the number of Muslims and Jats is decisive in western UP and that is why it is also called Jatland. BJP was coming from the last three elections by sweeping the Jats in its favor and cleaning the other parties. Due to the farmers’ agitation in this election, BJP is afraid of losing Jat votes.

BJP won 74% of seats in 2017: Western UP consists of 15 districts and 78 assembly seats come under it. Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Moradabad, Rampur, Amroha, Sambhal, Meerut, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Hapur and Aligarh districts fall in western UP. Last time out of 78, 58 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party alone and 16 seats were won by the SP. BSP and RLD had to be satisfied with 1 seat each, while Congress won 2 seats. It is clearly visible from the results that Jats voted for BJP outright and BJP got the benefit of polarization.

Jat stalwart Chaudhary Ajit Singh had also lost from Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar in the 2014 and 2019 elections respectively. The reason was only that the Jats did not vote for Chaudhary Ajit Singh also. But this time the situation may change due to the farmers’ agitation and the BJP is also fearing the Jat vote.

Muslim-Jat majority areas: Western UP is Muslim and Jat majority. Of the 15 districts in western UP, 10 districts account for more than 35% of the Jat population. Whereas in 73 out of 78 seats, the Muslim population is more than 25 percent. It is clearly visible from the caste equation that if the Jat vote is removed from the BJP, then the SP and RLD alliance can get a big advantage in western UP, because due to the weakening of the BSP, a large number of Muslims are now inclined towards the Samajwadi Party. . Elections in Uttar Pradesh are also starting from western UP.

BJP relying on Jats: In western Uttar Pradesh, the BJP continues to have faith in the Jats because the BJP also knows that in western Uttar Pradesh only the Jats can cross the BJP line. BJP is fighting the elections on the issue of Hindutva and development. In western UP, CM Yogi Adityanath also laid maximum emphasis on law and order during the election campaign. BJP is also mentioning Muzaffarnagar riots in the election campaign because BJP will get a lot of benefit from polarization. In September 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated a university named after Jat Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh in Aligarh.

The BJP also knows that if the government is to be formed with a large majority in Uttar Pradesh, it will have to repeat the 2017 election-like performance in western Uttar Pradesh. BJP is making every effort for that. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also been given the responsibility of Western Uttar Pradesh region.
