Ranchi. TV channel owner Arup Chatterjee, arrested for demanding extortion from the son-in-law of former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, has got interim bail from the Jharkhand High Court. Jharkhand High Court has directed to release him on bail on bail bond of 50,000. The matter was heard in the court of Justice SK Dwivedi on Tuesday. After this the court has given this order. The court has said that the next hearing will be held on August 22. The court has sought a response from the state government in this matter. The court held the police action in this case to be illegal. The court said that the provisions of CrPC were not followed in his arrest.

It is known that a petition was filed on Monday on behalf of his wife in the Jharkhand High Court for the release of Arup Chatterjee. Wife Baby Chatterjee had alleged that her husband was implicated by illegal coal traders as part of a conspiracy. He has not demanded extortion from anyone. He used to show news of illegal coal traders on his TV channel, that is why the conspiracy was hatched. Arup Chatterjee’s lawyer Naveen Kumar had sought a special hearing from the court. Accepting this, the court heard the matter on Tuesday.
