Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand has secured the top position in the Norwegian chess tournament by defeating world number one Magnus Carlsen. Indian Chess Grand Master Viswanathan Anand has defeated World Champion Magnus Carlsen twice in the last one week. With this victory in the Norway Chess Tournament he scored 10 points. They have now reached number one in the table. In the fifth round, the Indian star defeated the number one player on the basis of strong moves to reach the first position in the points table. Anand, 52, won 50 moves against Carlsen and showed his full experience. Earlier on May 31, he had won from them in the seventh round of the blitz section of the same tournament. Armageddon was played in this classical class match after a draw in the regular 40 moves. In the classical category, players have to play Armageddon after the match is drawn.

Anand now has a total of 10 points. They have to show such a strong game in the remaining four rounds to clinch this coveted title. At the start of the classical category, Anand had won three consecutive games over France’s Maxime Vachiere Lagrave, Bulgaria’s Veselin Topalov and China’s Hao Wang. At the same time, he had to face defeat against Weasley of America in the fourth round. The five-time world champion defeated Maxime Vachier Lagrave of France in the first round of the classical category. After this, defeating Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria registered a second consecutive victory. He had completed a hat-trick of victory by defeating Hao Wang of China.

Anand’s victory becomes even more important in terms of the Chess Olympiad being held for the first time in India. The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from 28 July to 10 August. So far, 343 players in the open category and 187 in the women’s category have been registered for this. The eyes of the whole world are on this tournament.
