The BJP government nominated Draupadi Murmu as the candidate for the post of President and now Jagdeep Dhankar’s name has been announced for the post of Vice President. Both the candidates have the experience of being ministers and governors, but more importantly, what have the BJP leaders kept in mind while electing them to these top posts? It is about respect for the downtrodden and vote bank!
One candidate will connect all the tribals of the country with the BJP and the other all the backward! It will also inculcate the feeling among the tribals and backward castes of the country that they may have been suppressed for centuries, but if two of their men can reach the highest positions of India, why can’t they also move ahead in life? The incident of farmer-son Dhankar becoming the Vice-President will not remain without arousing new enthusiasm among the farmers of the country. Apart from this, both these posts will definitely play some role in attracting the tribals of Pt. Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa to the BJP and in making a dent in Mamata Banerjee’s vote bank.
The BJP will also get the benefit of Jagdeep Dhankar’s presence in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Dhankar will be the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha as the Vice-President. This will probably be the first coincidence that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Speaker Dhankar will be from the same state of Rajasthan. This fact can also become a challenge for the Congress government of Rajasthan. Dhankar also has experience of being MLA, MP and Union Minister.
He has also been in the Janata Party and Congress. BJP is putting him on the post of Vice-President, this proves that BJP is expanding its doors. If he is known for his humility, then his candor is also well known. How many blunt governors have there been in the country? As much as Dhankar has openly slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has any other Governor been able to do any Chief Minister? That is why he is called the ‘Governor of the people’.
Last year when Jagdeepji hosted a feast for me at his Raj Bhavan, I invited all my special friends from Kolkata. Apart from BJP and Sanghis, there were Congressmen, Mamata’s Trinamoli and some journalists. Seeing them, the governor told some people that I am very angry with you people but you are a friend of Vaidikji, so you are very welcome. Who would say such a blunt thing?
Dhankar is the son of a farmer family of Rajasthan, but on the strength of his ability, he had kept his advocacy strong even in the Supreme Court. In Bengal this time the number of BJP MLAs increased from 3 to 71. Governor Jagdeep Dhankar also has a big credit for this. I am sure that now the House of Rajya Sabha will function in a better and disciplined manner. Dhankar’s victory is sure, the effect of his good behavior will be seen on our opposition as well.
