Somalia stunned by blasts, 100 killed

Mogadishu. At least 100 people were killed and 300 were injured in two car bomb blasts targeting the Ministry of Education building in Somalia. Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohammed gave this information on Sunday. The President visited the accident site and after coming from there expressed apprehension that the death toll may rise. On Saturday, a car laden with explosives was rammed into the education ministry building and then opened fire, police said. Shortly after this, another explosion was carried out in the same area.

Police spokesman Sadiq Dudishe later said journalists and police officers were among those killed in the blasts. Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked terrorist organization that controls a large part of the country, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The same organization often explodes in many parts of the country and in the capital. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Bore said such attacks by al-Shabaab would not affect the government’s commitment to root out terrorism from the country. Expressing condolences to the families of those killed in this attack, on behalf of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia, tweeted: “Wishing the injured in this attack a speedy recovery and we stand with the Somali people in the fight against terrorism.” Standing from (talk)
