Explosion in BPCL depot while filling petrol

Bhopal. A sudden explosion occurred while filling petrol in a tanker at a depot of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, injuring seven people, out of which two are in critical condition. Khajuri police station in-charge Sandhya Mishra said that the incident took place in Bakania at around quarter past eight last night. Seven people have been injured in the incident, out of which two are in critical condition, he said. The injured included six tanker drivers and operators of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and an employee of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Mishra told that these tanker drivers and operators of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, who were injured, had reached there to fill petrol. He said that the incident happened when the refilling tanker was being filled. “There was a sudden explosion due to which the tanker got badly damaged and caught fire,” Mishra said. The fire was brought under control in about seven minutes. He said that the incident was probably due to a short circuit, though a detailed investigation was on in the matter. Mishra said that all the injured have been admitted to the private Viva Hospital here. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted, Received the sad news of the employees getting injured due to the explosion of a diesel tank at the Petroleum Depot, Bakania, Bhopal.
