Amidst speculations about Tesla’s entry in India, the government has once again clarified the situation. The government has said that the Indian government has no problem with the proposal of industrialist Elon Musk, but the government will not allow them to import cars manufactured from abroad into India at any cost. Tesla will have to manufacture cars in India.

Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey said on Saturday that Elon Musk and Tesla are welcome in India but the government will not compromise on the policy of self-reliant India. In fact, US-based electric car maker Tesla’s founder and CEO Elon Musk said last month that a decision would be taken on manufacturing it locally only after Tesla is allowed to sell its cars in India.

Tesla is also demanding reduction in import duty for the sale of its vehicles in India. Responding to a question on Twitter about the possibility of Tesla setting up a manufacturing facility in India, Musk said, “Tesla will not set up its manufacturing facility in any place where it has previously sold and serviced its cars.” permission has not been granted.”

Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Pandey said on Saturday, “The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has moved ahead rapidly on the self-reliant India policy and it has also received very good response. We will not make any kind of compromise.” He said, “Keeping in mind the policies of the country, Tesla, Elon Musk are welcome in India.”
