India won by Ashwin, Jadeja’s record

Mohali. The Indian cricket team took an unassailable lead in the series after beating Sri Lanka in the first Test match in just three days. In the first test match, India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs. The hero of the win was all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin. Both the players made big international records in their names. Ashwin broke Kapil Dev’s record of taking the most wickets by taking six wickets in the match. He now has 436 wickets to his name. Only Anil Kumble is ahead of him among Indian bowlers, who has 619 wickets to his name. In terms of wickets, he has now reached number 10 in the world.

Ravindra Jadeja holds the record for scoring a century and taking five or more wickets in a match. Earlier, two Indian players – Vinoo Mankad and Polly Umrigar had done this feat. Jadeja scored 175 runs in the first innings of the first match and took nine wickets in both the innings combined. He took five or more wickets in a Test match for the first time. R Ashwin has done this feat thrice.

However, hosts India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in Mohali, almost an hour before the end of the third day’s play of the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka in Mohali. After India declared their innings at 574 for eight in the first innings, Sri Lanka were all out for 188 in the second innings as they were reduced to 174 in the first innings.

Ravindra Jadeja, who took five wickets in the first innings, took four wickets in the second innings, spreading the ball with the ball. Jadeja was adjudged man of the match. In the second innings, R Ashwin got four and Shami got two batsmen out. Pathum Nisanka, the only batsman from Sri Lanka, remained unbeaten on 61 runs. After trailing India by 400 runs in the first innings, captain Rohit Sharma made Sri Lanka follow-on.
