Rishi Sunak came closer to the post of PM

London. Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has moved one step closer to becoming the Prime Minister of Britain. Conservative MPs have reassured Sunak, despite opposition from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In the third round of voting, Sunak has secured more votes than the last time. He got 115 votes in the third round. The race of seven members for the post of Prime Minister has now been reduced to four members. In these four, Rishi Sunak is running at number one with a huge margin.

Sunak, 42, has consistently topped the list since voting began last week to choose the leader of the Conservative Party. On Monday, he got 115 votes in the third round. Among the four leaders in the race for PM, Business Minister Penny Mordant came second with 82 votes, followed by Foreign Minister Liz Truss, who got 71 votes. Former minister Kemi Badenoch got 58 votes.

Tom Tugendhat, chairman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, received 31 votes in the third round, down from 32 last time, and was out of the competition. The fourth round of voting will be held on Tuesday, at the end of which another candidate with the fewest votes will be eliminated and by Thursday only two candidates will make it to the final list. Sunak got 88 votes in the first round and 101 votes in the second round. He received 115 votes in the third round of voting, while second-place Mordent received one vote less than the 83 he received in the second round. Truss has improved its figure and has gone up by 64 votes to 71. Badenoch, on the other hand, advanced to 49 in the final round and came down to 58 votes.
