Sushmita Shukla of Indian origin became the first Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank

New York. Indian-origin Sushmita Shukla has been appointed as the First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. Now she has become the second highest officer of this prestigious central bank. The New York-based central bank said in a statement that Shukla’s appointment has been approved by the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve System. Shukla (54) has been appointed by the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with effect from March 2023.

Shukla said in a statement that she was honoured. She added, “I will draw on my entire experience to support the dedicated leadership of this important institution and advance its important activities.

John Williams, the central bank’s president and chief executive officer, said Shukla is energetic, inspirational and very effective, bringing her vast experience to the bank. Williams said Shukla has a deep knowledge of technology and innovation methodologies and is passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive culture. Shukla’s profile on the central bank’s website states that she has nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and has held various leadership roles.
