Surat: National sports competition begins from today at the hands of city player Harmit Desai

Table tennis competition will be held from 20 to 24 September and badminton competition from 1 to 6 October

Under the 36th National Games being held in six cities of the state, table tennis competition will be held in Surat from 20 to 24 September and badminton competition from 1 to 6 October, the preparations for which have been finalized. Press conference was held at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium. Giving information, Municipal Commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani said that after 8 years, the National Games are being organized in Gujarat. It is a matter of pride for the city to start the National Games in Surat from today in the hands of the sports person of Surat, Harmit Desai.

Players addressed the media on the eve of National Sports Competition

Addressing the media on the eve of table tennis events, Municipal Commissioner Pani informed the media representatives and said that Surat National Games will start on 20th with the introduction of Table Tennis. The tournament schedule will begin with Table Tennis at Pandit Din Dayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium from September 20-24, followed by Badminton from October 1 at the same venue while Beach Volleyball and Beach Handball are scheduled at Dumas Beach.

115 players from all over the country have arrived in the city

He said that 115 players have arrived in the city, they have been provided best accommodation facilities including reception desks at railway stations and airports and transport facilities for pickup and drop. Banchanidhi Pani further said that the people of Surat will see world-class athletes from four sports disciplines competing for more than 15 gold medals at two different venues as part of the 36th National Games to be held in six cities of the state. A total of 85 table tennis players, including 43 female and 42 male players, will play their unique game for five days for seven gold medals and will compete to win the gold.
