A senior officer of the Baruipur police in South 24 Parganas district has said that the accused claimed that Ujjwal Chakraborty, a former Navy personnel, used to harass them continuously. According to the police, Chakraborty’s son pushed him on November 12 following which he hit his head against a chair at his Buraipur home and fell unconscious. He told that after this the son allegedly strangulated him to death. The son is a student of Carpentry/Woodworking in a Polytechnic. Chakraborty (55) had retired from the Navy 12 years ago.

The police officer said that after killing Chakraborty, his wife and son took his body to the bathroom. His son then took out a saw from his carpentry class kit and cut the body into six parts and dumped them in the surrounding areas.

The son wrapped the pieces of the body in plastic and made at least six rounds on his bicycle and dumped them 500 meters away in Khas Mallick and Dehimedan Malla areas, the official said. He said both Chakraborty’s legs were found in the garbage dump while his head and stomach were thrown into Dehimedan Malla’s pond. Other parts of his body are being searched.

The mother-son duo came under the scanner of the police when they lodged a missing complaint on the morning of 15 November about Chakraborty. A police officer told that the time he came to Baruipur police station, he created suspicion in our mind. We found loopholes in his statements and questioned him.

Eventually the son accepted the crime. A preliminary investigation has revealed that Chakraborty refused to give Rs 3,000 to his son to appear for an examination. After this there was a fight between them. Chakraborty slapped his son after which he pushed his father and he fell down and became unconscious after hitting his head on the chair, the officer said. After this the son strangled him to death.

Recently in Delhi too, a similar case of murder and dismemberment of the dead body has come to the fore. According to the Delhi Police, Aftab Poonawalla allegedly strangulated Walkar (27) to death on May 18 and chopped her body into 35 pieces and kept it in a 300-litre refrigerator for nearly three weeks at his residence in south Delhi’s Mehrauli. And then kept throwing them at various places in the city after midnight.
