According to a report released by the UN, describing India’s efforts to eradicate poverty, it has been told that in the last 15 years in India, 415 million people have come out of poverty. India’s poverty alleviation efforts have been appreciated in the new Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) released on Monday by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).

UN appreciates India’s effort

Let us tell you that in the recently released Global Hunger Index Report-2022, India was ranked 107th out of 121 countries. At the same time, the latest UN report Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) has put its stamp on the efforts of the Government of India to eradicate poverty. According to the UN, both India’s MPI value and poverty status have come down by more than half. This report released by the UN, “India’s progress shows that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is possible even on such a large scale.”

So many people came out of poverty in India

The United Nations report states that between the years 2005-06 to 2019-21, a historic 415 million people in India have come out of poverty. The decline in the number of poor in India has also been divided into two periods. During the year 2005-06 to 2015-16, while 27.5 crore people came out of poverty, between 2015-16 and 2019-21, 14 crore people were successful in coming out of poverty. Describing India’s effort in the MPI report as a remarkable effort towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the report said, “It shows that the Sustainable Development Goals of halving the number of poor by 2030 have been achieved in a big way.” It is possible to do.”

India has the highest number of poor in the world

According to population figures, there are 22.89 crore poor in India in the year 2020, which is the highest in the world. After India, Nigeria ranks second in this list with 9.67 million poor. It is worth noting that in 2019-21, 97 million children in India were in the clutches of poverty, which is more than the total number of poor present in any other country. Yet a multi-faceted policy approach suggests that integrated interventions can improve the lives of millions of people.
