Chief Minister Stalin again in command of DMK

Chennai. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) veteran MK Stalin was unanimously elected the party president at the party’s general council meeting held here on Sunday. According to party sources, Stalin was declared elected unopposed to the top post of the party in the meeting of the newly formed General Council.

Senior party leaders Duraimurugan and TR Baalu ​​were elected unopposed as general secretary and treasurer respectively. All three leaders have been elected to their posts for the second time. Chief Minister Stalin was accorded a warm welcome by party workers on his arrival at the meeting place of the General Council here.

As the DMK’s 15th organizational election, the party president, general secretary and treasurer have been elected after election to party positions at various levels in the state. The 69-year-old Stalin, the younger son of the late M Karunanidhi, has held various positions in the party including DMK’s treasurer and youth wing secretary.

Stalin was elected unopposed as the party’s president in 2018 following the death of Karunanidhi. Stalin is the second president of DMK. Karunanidhi became the first president of DMK in 1969 and then for the first time the post of president was made in the party. Dravidian movement icon and DMK founder CN Annadurai was the party’s top general secretary until his death in 1969. DMK was established in 1949.
