Ganguly said on the appointment of Laxman and Dravid – Indian cricket is in safe hands

BCCI Chief Saurav Ganguly on Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman: After the appointment of his former teammates Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman to two influential positions in Indian cricket, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that Indian cricket is in safe hands. Dravid has been made the head coach of the Indian team while Laxman will head the National Cricket Academy.

Ganguly had entrusted Laxman with the responsibility of the state unit’s project ‘Vision 2020’ during his tenure as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal. Ganguly told PTI, ‘I am very happy that he has been appointed as the head coach and NCA chief. Both of these are very important positions in Indian cricket.

Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman played together from 1996 to 2008 and were the backbone of the Indian middle order. Asked how difficult it was to persuade the two, Ganguly said, “They were told it was important and they agreed. We are happy to appoint both and Indian cricket is now in safe hands. I am happy that both are ready and they want to do this for Indian cricket.

Ganguly said Laxman’s arrival as the NCA chief would make a big difference as he is a wonderful person and has a very high stature in Indian cricket. He said, ‘He will be selected because of Laxman’s commitment. It is always wonderful to work with him. His stature is very high in Indian cricket. Rahul has made a system in the NCA and Laxman will continue it. ,

Ganguly said Laxman has given up on contracting as a mentor for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL and commentary contracts for the position besides writing columns for various organisations. He said, ‘He is shifting from Hyderabad to Bangalore for the next three years so that he can serve Indian cricket. It is worth mentioning that. His earnings will be less but in spite of this he is ready. His wife and children will also shift. Her children will now study in Bangalore and it will be a big change for the family to adjust to the new environment. Unless you are dedicated to Indian cricket, it is not easy to do.
