Earthquake in Afghanistan, thousand dead

Kabul, More than a thousand people have died in a severe earthquake in Afghanistan. Thousands of houses have been destroyed in the grip of this terrible earthquake on Wednesday. According to a report, more than one and a half thousand people have been injured. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 6.1 on the Richter scale. The tremors of the earthquake were so strong that it was felt in many parts of Pakistan as well.

According to the news agency Reuters, there is news that hundreds of houses have been destroyed due to the severe earthquake in Afghanistan. Bilal Karimi, a spokesman for Afghanistan’s Taliban government, did not give the death toll in the quake but tweeted that hundreds of people had been killed. After the earthquake, Prime Minister Mohammad Hassan Akhund called an emergency meeting and directed to intensify the relief and rescue work.

Earlier on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said a 6.1-magnitude earthquake shook densely populated parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to this, the epicenter of the earthquake was about 44 km from the city of Khost in south-eastern Afghanistan. The earthquake occurred 51 km away from the earth.

The head of the Taliban administration’s ministry of natural disasters, Mohammad Naseem Haqqani, has said that they will be able to give an accurate death toll after completing further investigations. However, Afghanistan’s Disaster Management Authority has confirmed the death of more than a thousand people due to the earthquake. According to media reports, the death toll may increase further.
