By-elections on December 5 in one Lok Sabha and five assembly seats

New Delhi. By-elections will be held on December 5 on five assembly seats in various states along with the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant due to the death of Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. The Election Commission gave this information on Saturday. Yadav passed away last month after a prolonged illness.

The Rampur assembly seat, which fell vacant after the disqualification of SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan in Uttar Pradesh, is one of the five seats for which by-elections are to be held. Khan, who was an MLA from Rampur, was disqualified by the Speaker of the Assembly in April 2019 after he was sentenced to three years in a hate speech case registered against him. Counting of votes for five assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat will take place on December 8 when the counting of votes for the assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will take place.

The other assembly seats where by-polls are to be held are Padampur in Odisha, Sardarshahr in Rajasthan, Kudhni in Bihar and Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh.
