Bihar: Old man hanged himself in the police station, station head suspended

Buxar. An elderly accused allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday night by hanging himself from the latch of a fan installed in the computer room of Koransarai police station in Bihar’s Buxar district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Neeraj Kumar Singh said on Thursday that Koransarai SHO Junaid Alam has been suspended for negligence and investigation has been initiated. He said that the CCTV footage installed at the police station is being scrutinised.

According to the SP, Kopwan village resident Yamuna Singh (70) was arrested on Wednesday under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Prevention Act and was made to sit in the computer room of Koransarai police station. He said that Singh had an argument with his neighbor over a quarrel between children during a game, following which an FIR was lodged against him and the police arrested him and made him sit in the computer room of the police station.

According to the SP, finding himself alone at night, Singh allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan with the help of his pot, which led to his death.

However, Arun Singh, the son of the deceased, has alleged that it was not a suicide but a case of death due to police torture. After the incident, angry relatives have blocked the Dumrao Koransarai main road, accusing the police of beating up Singh.
