Army helicopter sent emergency message before it crashed

New Delhi. An emergency message was sent from the Army’s Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) room about a technical snag before it crashed in Miging, a mountainous area in Arunachal Pradesh. Army sources gave this information on Saturday.

The bodies of four of the five personnel were recovered by rescue teams hours after the helicopter crashed on Friday. A source said, prior to the accident, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) room was informed about a technical or mechanical fault.

The weather was good for flying, the source said. The pilots had a combined experience of over 600 hours flying such helicopters. The helicopter was inducted into the Army in June 2015. The Indian Army has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.

This helicopter was designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Army. It is also known as Rudra Mark IV. (Language)
