Amendment in Aadhaar rule, will have to be updated in 10 years

New Delhi. The government has made amendments in the Aadhaar rule. Under this, it will be necessary to update the relevant documents at least once after the completion of 10 years from the date of obtaining the Aadhaar number. According to the notification published in the gazette issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the updating of Aadhaar will result in continuous generation of related information in the Central Identity Data Repository (CIDR). Accuracy will be ensured on the basis.

As per the notification, Aadhaar holders can get the documents containing identity and residence proof updated at least once on completion of every 10 years from the date of enrollment of Aadhaar. This will ensure the accuracy of Aadhaar-linked information in CIDR on an ongoing basis. The provision of Aadhaar (Enrolment and Updation) Regulation regarding updating of information has been changed.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issued the Aadhaar number, last month urged people to re-update the relevant information if it has been more than 10 years for them to have an Aadhaar number. If not done, they should get the identity and residence proof documents updated.

To make things easier for people to update information, UIDAI has added a new feature…document update…. This facility can be used online through ‘My Aadhaar’ portal and ‘My Aadhaar’ app. The concerned person can also visit any Aadhaar Enrollment Center to avail this facility.

Through the new facility, Aadhaar holders can re-verify relevant information by updating documents such as Identity Certificate (containing name and photograph) and Domicile Certificate (containing name and address). As many as 134 crore Aadhaar numbers have been issued so far, the number of Aadhaar holders who will need to update their details after the latest move by UIDAI is not yet known. (Language)
