ICC Player of the Month: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the ICC Player of the Month awards today. This award is given to men and women cricketers for the best performance in all formats. The men’s players nominated for October are Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Pakistan’s power full finisher Asif Ali and Namibian batsman David Wiese.

Shakib has played six matches in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman since last month. During this, he scored a total of 131 runs at a strike rate of 109.16 and took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 5.59. The all-rounder played two brilliant matches in the tournament last month, scoring 42 runs in the first match and taking three wickets and 46 runs against Oman and four against Papua New Guinea. The ICC said that this is Shakib Al Hasan’s second nomination in the year.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s middle-order batsman Asif Ali played three matches in the 2021 T20 World Cup. During this he scored a total of 52 runs with a strike rate of 273.68. His breakthrough performance was when he scored 27 runs in 12 balls in defeating New Zealand. He also hit four sixes in the 19th over in the next game against Afghanistan and the team won.

Meanwhile, Namibia’s legendary all-rounder David Vieze has had a great World Cup so far. He played eight T20 matches, where he scored a total of 162 runs at a strike rate of 132.78 and took seven wickets at an economy rate of 7.23. David’s match-winning performance helped Namibia qualify for the Super 12 of the tournament, where he scored an unbeaten 66 against the Netherlands and 28 not out against Ireland. During this he also contributed well with the ball.

These players are contenders among women cricketers
Among women players, Ireland’s all-rounder Laura Delany and right-handed batsman Gabby Lewis, along with Zimbabwe captain and all-rounder Mary-Anne, are included in this list. Ireland’s all-rounder Delany played four ODIs against Zimbabwe last month and scored a total of 189 runs at a strike rate of 108.62. Apart from this, he took four wickets at an economy rate of 3.85. Delany scored 86, 35 and 68 runs in his three innings in the ODI series win against Zimbabwe.

Gaby, another Irish cricketer, also played four ODIs against Zimbabwe and scored a total of 263 runs at a strike rate of 77.35. Lewis was the top scorer in the team’s ODI series win against Zimbabwe, scoring 65, 96 not out and 78 in the last three matches. Due to which Ireland won the 3-1 series over Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Musonda captained Zimbabwe in four ODIs against Ireland and scored a total of 169 runs at a strike rate of 90.86. In this he also won a historic victory. He played his first ODI match. During this, Mary-Anne Musonda’s unbeaten century gave her a four-wicket win against Ireland.
