West Bengal tourist trapped in Shrikedarnath dies

Dehradun/Rudraprayag. One of the two tourists from West Bengal, stranded on the Kedarnath-Ransi track in Uttarakhand, died, while another was rescued. Two members of a 10-member West Bengal tourist team got stuck on the track on Monday evening, unable to walk due to severe health conditions.

On receiving the information, the team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and brought down one of them alive and the other in dead condition. SDRF spokesperson Lalita Das Negi said on Tuesday that out of the total 10 members of the tourist team, 08 people along with porters had returned, while two got stuck there. On this information, a search operation was carried out on the said track under the leadership of SDRF Chief Constable (Head Constable) Surendra Singh.

Both the tourists were found amidst icy rocks near Mahapanth, 6 km from Kedarnath, while conducting extensive searches on foot in the high altitude area under extreme extreme conditions. He said that one of the two tourists had died while the other was in poor health. After giving first aid to the sick person by the team personnel, he was immediately taken to Kedarnath and admitted to the hospital. Negi said that the rescued person has been identified as Vikram Mazumdar (38), a resident of 24 Paragana, West Bengal, while the deceased has been identified as Alok Biswas (34), a resident of 24 Paragana, West Bengal.
