Even during September 2019, concern was expressed in the UK Parliament regarding Jammu and Kashmir. British MP Bob Blackman had said that the entire Jammu and Kashmir region was part of sovereign India and urged Pakistan to leave Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir was being discussed in the UK Parliament. Meanwhile, a British parliamentarian, Bob Blackman, praised the Indian Army and said that Jammu and Kashmir could not become Afghanistan because of the Indian Army. He told the reason for the tension between India and Pakistan about Kashmir and how Islamic forces are effective there. Terrorist attacks are happening across the border i.e. from Pakistan side, terrorists are being infiltrated into India from there itself. In such a situation, if India withdraws its army from there, then Islamic forces there will end democracy from Kashmir. Which is absolutely not right for human rights.

British MP Bob Blackman said that it is because of the Indian Army that the region of Jammu and Kashmir is not yet like Taliban-occupied Afghanistan. Speaking in the UK House of Commons, in response to a debate on the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Blackman noted that Kashmir has been “tainted” by numerous terrorist attacks, killings and forced conversions by radical Islamist terrorists.

Parliament said that we should remember that Kashmir may be Muslim (majority), Jammu is predominantly Hindu and Ladakh is predominantly Buddhist. And the fact that historically persecuted religious minorities of Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, women and children unfortunately suffer in the Valley. He said that the Indian forces have played the responsibility of good security here. Had the Indian Army not been here, there could have been a situation like Afghanistan in the Valley. He said that the human rights situation here has deteriorated due to terrorists and particular religion.

In his debate, he further said that just think, we have seen what has happened in Afghanistan. If the troops were withdrawn, if we had a situation where there was no security, then the plight of Jammu and Kashmir would be the same as in Afghanistan, with Islamic forces coming in and destroying democracy in the region.

“It is only the Indian Army and the strong foundations of Indian military democracy that have blocked the territory of Jammu and Kashmir, such as Taliban-occupied Afghanistan,” Blackman said. Blackman ended his address by asking his colleagues to recognize the reality. There were two sides on the human rights situation in the British Parliament.
