Today’s history, November 21: The first postage stamp of independent India ‘Jai Hind’ released, cost three and a half annas

New Delhi. After the country got independence on August 15, 1947, the government of independent India issued its first postal stamp on this day, the price of which was fixed at three and a half annas. Issued in the name of ‘Jai Hind’, this postage stamp had a picture of the tricolor waving in the middle, while its price in English ie three and a half anna was marked on the left.

‘India’ was written just below the tricolor and 15 August 1947 was inscribed next to the tricolor.
