Despite taking 9 wickets in the second innings against New Zealand in the Kanpur Test match, Team India could not win the match. The lower order batsmen of the Kiwi team, playing with restraint, got the match drawn. This is the third time in the history of Indian Test cricket that she could not win the match even after taking 9 wickets in the fourth innings of the match.

That test match of the year 1978 and 2006

In 1978, India had set a target of 335 runs in front of West Indies in the Test match played in Kolkata from 29 December. West Indies scored 197 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their second innings and managed to draw the match. Cricket fans still remember these test matches. And the reason for this is great batsman Sunil Gavaskar.

In this Test match played at the Eden Gardens, Gavaskar became the man of the match by scoring centuries in both the innings. Gavaskar scored 107 in the first innings of that match and 182 not out in the second innings. Karsan Ghavri also bowled amazingly in that match. He took a total of 7 wickets in two innings.

After this, India scored 241 runs in the first innings of the Test match played at St. John’s in 2006. West Indies team took a lead of 130 runs. But thanks to Wasim Jaffer’s double century in the second innings, the Indian team got a lead of 391 runs. Despite losing 9 wickets in the second innings, the West Indies team managed to draw the match.

This is the third time in Test cricket after Kolkata and St John’s when the Indian team could not win the match despite the opposition taking 9 wickets in the second innings.
