Women’s IPL may be held with five teams

Mumbai The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to organize the first season of the Women’s IPL with five teams. ESPN Cricinfo quoted BCCI sources as saying that 22 matches will be played in the Women’s Indian Premier League (Women’s IPL) to be held in March 2023. A franchise will have six foreign players out of a maximum of 18 players, while a maximum of five foreign players can play in the XI. ESPA Cricinfo said that the board is also debating between the two options to sell IPL teams. Under the first option, the teams will be divided into North (Dharamsala/Jammu), South (Kochi/Vizag), Central (Indore/Nagpur/Raipur), East (Ranchi/Cuttack), North East (Guwahati) and West (Pune/Rajkot) zones. can be divided.

In the second format, the teams can be divided in a city-wise manner like in the men’s IPL. In the league stage, the teams will play each other in two matches. The team topping the points table will directly qualify for the final, while the second and third placed teams will be decided by the Eliminator match. The chairman of the IPL Governing Council and the BCCI office-bearers have been authorized to take a final call on the schedule of the tournament.
