India Biggest Philanthropists : Azim Premji, the founder of software major Wipro, is counted among India’s most philanthropist. And once again Azim remains at the top position in the list of philanthropic billionaires. Azim Premji donated Rs 9,713 crore during the financial year 2020-21. That is, he donated Rs 27 crore per day.

27 crore donation every day

According to Hurun India’s philanthropy list for 2021, Azim Premji has donated 23 percent more in the 2020-21 financial year than in 2019-20. The Azim Premji Foundation increased the allocated funds from Rs 1,125 crore to Rs 2,125 crore to speed up the work of immunization due to the pandemic in ten states. At the same time, he has assured that if needed, he has given assurance to increase the amount of donation.

Shiv Nadar at number two

Shiv Nadar, the founder and president of HCL Technologies, is second in the list of donors. He has retained his second position. Shiv Nadar has donated Rs 1,263 crore. Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, donated 577 crores during the financial year 2020-21 and he is at the third place in this list. Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla is at the fourth position in the list with a contribution of Rs 377 crore.

Nandan Nilekani donated more

Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has moved up two places to fifth in the list by donating more. He has donated a total of Rs 183 crore. The Hinduja family is at the sixth position with a donation of Rs 166 crore. The Bajaj family is at the seventh position in the Hurun India Philanthropy List with a donation of Rs 136 crore. In eighth place, Gautam Adani and Anil Agarwal donated Rs 130 crore jointly. The Burman family of Dabur Group is at the tenth position with a donation of Rs 114 crore. There has been an increase of 502 percent in the donations of the Dabur family. AM Naik, former chairman of Larsen & Toubro, is ranked 11th on the list with a donation of Rs 112 crore, who has pledged 75 per cent of his income for charitable purposes.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala most generous donor

This year 17 pairs were seen in the list, in which a total of Rs 261 crore was donated. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, the biggest investor in the stock market, has joined EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021 as the most generous entrant with a donation of Rs 50 crore. Zerodha co-founders Nitin and Nikhil Kamath have pledged Rs 750 crore over the next few years to support individuals, organizations and companies working on climate change solutions. They are ranked 35th on the list . 35-year-old Nikhil Kamath is the youngest donor in the list.

Women are also ahead in donating

Nine women have been included in the Hurun India Philanthropy List this year. Rohini Nilekani of Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies donated Rs 69 crore. USV’s Leena Gandhi Tiwari donated Rs 24 crore, and Thermax’s Anu Agha Rs 20 crore. Currently, most of the donation money is going to meet basic needs like education and healthcare.
