President Murmu pays tribute to Birsa Munda in Ulihatu

peg. President Draupadi Murmu reached the Jharkhand capital on Tuesday morning and went straight to the birthplace of Birsa Munda and paid floral tributes to the tribal leader on his birth anniversary. Munda’s birth anniversary is celebrated as ‘Tribal Pride Day’.

The President was received by Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais and Chief Minister Hemant Soren upon landing at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda airport at around 9 am. From here she went to Ulihatu village of Birsa Munda by helicopter of Indian Air Force. Union ministers Arjun Munda and Annapurna Devi were also present there.

Murmu, who was the former Governor of Jharkhand, who reached the state for the first time after becoming the President, was given a warm welcome by the villagers at Ulihatu, about 70 km from the state capital Ranchi.

In Ulihatu he paid floral tributes to the statue of Munda. Though the general public was not allowed to visit the main venue due to security reasons, Birsa Munda fans dressed in traditional attires stood in large numbers on both sides of the road to catch a glimpse of the President. (Language)
