Saurav Ganguly on Rahul Dravid: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently revealed in an interview that his son has also played a role in making Rahul Dravid the head coach of Team India. He revealed how Rahul Dravid’s son influenced him to engage his strict father in the Indian cricket team. However, Ganguly made this disclosure in a light-hearted manner.
On Dravid’s appointment as India’s head coach, Ganguly said, “I got a call from Dravid’s son saying that his father is being too strict with him and he needs to be taken away.” That’s when I called up Rahul (Dravid) and told him that it was time for him to join the national team.
Ganguly said that we grew up together, our career started around the same time, and spent most of the time playing together. So, it was easy for some of us to welcome him. At first, Rahul Dravid was adamant on not becoming the coach, as he was working with the players of the future. Dravid hails from Bangalore and being the head coach of the NCA, he was able to give time to his family as well.
Let us tell you that Rahul Dravid’s son Samit Dravid is also a young cricketer. Last year he scored a double century in Under-14 school cricket. Sourav Ganguly and BCCI secretary Jay Shah had to convince Rahul Dravid a lot to make him the coach of Team India.
Dravid’s salary will be like this
Dravid is now associated with Team India as a full-time head coach. His first series as a coach will start against New Zealand from November 17. He has signed a deal with BCCI till 2023. His salary will be 10 crores plus bonus. Dravid has been the coach of Team India even before this. He was the coach of Team India, which went to Sri Lanka this year. Under his coaching, Team India has captured the ODI series.
