Rajasthan: Soumya Gurjar again took over the post of mayor

Jaipur. Soumya Gurjar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday once again assumed the post of mayor of the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation. Gurjar has held this position for the third time in the last two years.

After assuming office, he accused the state government of conspiring against him. “This is the answer for those conspirators. Those who conspire and lose in their conspiracy. This state government is hatching a conspiracy. If you are seeing me on this chair for the third time, it is a public blessing. People want truth to win. Our struggle will continue.”

It is noteworthy that Soumya had challenged the dismissal from the post by the state government in the High Court. He took charge once again after the verdict came in his favor.

A by-election for the post of mayor was held and voting was held on Thursday. But in the meantime, the Jaipur bench of the High Court set aside the September 27 order of the state government to remove Soumya Gurjar from the post of Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Jaipur Greater. After this, the State Election Commission stopped the process of by-election of the mayor and paved the way for Gurjar to take charge once again.

In June 2021, Gurjar was removed from the post after he was convicted in a judicial inquiry for misbehaving with the then commissioner of Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation Yagya Mitra Singh Deo and debarring him from official work. However, after getting relief from the High Court, she again sat on this post.
