T20 world cup bugle

Melbourne. The trumpet of the World Cup has been sounded with the traditional ‘Captains’ Day’ coming together for the captains of the 16 teams participating in the T20 World Cup. More than a billion cricket fans across the world will be eyeing the cricket action that will take place for almost a month. On the first day of the competition, Sri Lanka will face Namibia in Group A of the first round and the United Arab Emirates will face Holland. 45 matches will be played in the tournament over 28 days. The final will take place on 13 November in Melbourne where the champion will be decided.

Sri Lanka, who won the trophy in 2014, will be buoyed by their success at the recent Asia Cup in the UAE. The eyes of the team will be on making a place in the Super 12 so that it can again present its claim for the world title. Expressing confidence, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka said that we are full of confidence after doing well in the Asia Cup. The weather here is good. Our focus is on our batting. In T20, it depends on the particular day. I think the better team will win.

On Sunday, Sri Lanka’s rival Namibia made an impact in their debut last year by making it to the Super 12 of the World Cup. This time too he would like to leave a similar impression. The hosts Australia, captained by Aaron Finch, will be desperate to repeat their previous title success. His first match in Super 12 will be on 22 October against New Zealand in Sydney. (IANS)
