Surat: Athletes win bronze medal at 11th Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships in Vietnam

20 students participated in the Indian team, 10 boys and 10 girls

The 11th Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship was held in Vietnam. In this competition held from 25 to 28 August, 20 students, 10 boys and 10 girls participated in the Indian team. In this competition the players of Surat were successful in getting the bronze medal.

Medal in 51 kg category

5 Taekwondo players Mihir Naliyapara, Nirvi Head, His Raja, Kamya Malhotra and Dhruv Jain from Surat participated. Pamir Shah of Dynamic Warrior Martial Arts Academy was appointed as the coach of this team. In the boys’ K-51kg category, Mihir Naliyapara won the bronze medal by defeating Hong Kong and China and Nirvi Head defeated Nepal to win the bronze medal. Mihir has also represented India at the World School Games, Paris, 2 months ago. Nirvi has also represented India at the Asian and World Cadet Championships in 2018-2019.

More than 2000 players are taking training

Mihir, Nirvi, Jena and Kamya have also represented India at the World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Bulgaria last month. All these 5 players are undergoing training under specialist coach Aman Kumar at the CoE Academy run by the Sports Authority of Gujarat. Taekwondo is a type of martial art and a full contact sport. Taekwondo is an Olympic sport. Apart from Taekwondo and Judo, no other martial art has found a place in the Olympics. Taekwondo is a full contact martial art and is very famous for self defense. Presently more than 2000 players are taking Taekwondo training in Surat city. Taekwondo is taught as a subject in more than 40 schools.
