Sri Lanka beat West Indies in first test, secured first place in WTC points table

Sri Lanka vs West Indies Galle Test: In the first Test played at the Galle International Stadium, hosts Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by 187 runs. With this, the Sri Lankan team took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

After taking a lead of 156 runs in the first innings, Sri Lanka declared the second innings for 191 runs and set a target of 348 runs in front of the West Indies. In response, the Caribbean team could only score 160 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored a century in the first innings for Sri Lanka, received the Player of the Match award.

Eight Sri Lankan batsmen could not cross the double figure

In the second innings, the West Indies batsmen looked helpless in front of the Sri Lankan bowlers. Nkrumah Bonner scored an unbeaten 68 and Joshua Da Silva scored 54 runs for the West Indies. At the same time, eight players could not even touch the tens figure.

Karunaratne, who scored 147 in the first innings for Sri Lanka, scored 83 runs in the second innings. Apart from this, veteran player Angelo Mathews scored an unbeaten 69 in the second innings. Ramesh Mendis took the maximum seven wickets for Sri Lanka in bowling. While Lasith Imbuldeniya got six and Jayavikrama got five wickets.

Sri Lankan team reached number one in the points table

This is Sri Lanka’s first win in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23. This was Sri Lanka’s first match in the WTC and they have now surpassed India in the points table according to 100 percent percentage of points to reach the first position.
