Shami out of Australia T20 series

Mumbai Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the India vs Australia T20 International series after being found corona infected. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah told that the selection committee has included Umesh Yadav in the team in place of Shami.

According to sources, Shami will not be able to reach Mohali for the first T20 match to be held on 20 September due to corona infection. This information was received by the concerned officials of BCCI and team management on Saturday, 17 September.

Umesh, who came in the team in place of Shami, has recently come to India from London. Umesh was playing for Middlesex in the County Championship but returned home for rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru due to a muscle injury. The county said in a statement on September 17 that Umesh, who had come to India for rehab along with the BCCI medical team, was not well enough to handle the required workload in the four-day match and therefore would not participate in the County Championship any further. The 34-year-old Umesh played his last ODI in October 2018, while the T20 International was in February 2019.

The three-match T20I series between India and Australia will begin in Mohali on 20 September. Apart from this, one match will be played on 23 September in Nagpur and one match will be played in Hyderabad on 25 September. (talk)
