Adampur by-election: 22 percent polling till 11 am

Chandigarh. In the Adampur assembly by-election of Haryana, about 22 percent voting was recorded in the first four hours on Thursday. Polling was going on peacefully in all the 80 polling stations as no untoward incident was reported, an official said. Key candidates include BJP’s Bhavya Bishnoi, Congress candidate Jai Prakash, Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) Kurda Ram Numberdar and AAP’s Satinder Singh. Bhavya, his father Kuldeep Bishnoi, mother Renuka and his grandmother Jasma Devi cast their votes in Adampur.

A total of 22 candidates are in the fray in the by-election. Voting will be held till 6 pm. The by-polls had to be held after the resignation of Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi, who joined the BJP in August. A total of 16 elections have been held in Adampur assembly including three by-elections. The seat has been a stronghold of Bhajanlal as his family members have won the seat 16 times in a row since 1968. Bhajan Lal won nine times, while his son Kuldeep Bishnoi won four times. Kuldeep’s wife Renuka became an MLA in the 2011 by-election, while his mother Jasma Devi won from here in 1987. Bhajan Lal’s grandson is the fifth member of the grand family to contest the election.
