Earlier, Rahane had scored 109 runs in four Tests against England. In the last 10 Tests, only two half-centuries have come off Rahane’s bat. At the same time, his best score was 67 runs.

Rahane may stay out of playing XI

Rahane may be out of the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test against South Africa starting on December 26. In this test, one of the batsmen KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Mayank Agarwal will open with Rohit Sharma. After this, Cheteshwar Pujara and then captain Virat Kohli will bat. At the same time, Shreyas Iyer can play at number five.

Iyer has almost confirmed his place in the team by scoring a century in his debut Test against New Zealand. In such a situation, Rahane is almost certain to be out of the playing XI.
