New Delhi | Charanjit Singh passed away : Hockey legend Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee Charanjit Singh passed away today. Charanjit Singh was living in his last days in Una district of Himachal Pradesh. It is told that he was running ill for a long time and passed away due to age related complications. His age was 92 years old. Hockey India expressed deep condolences on his death on Thursday. Let us tell you that the two-time Olympian was a part of the glorious days of India. A charismatic halfback, Charanjit Singh led the Indian team to a historic gold medal win at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Pakistan was defeated in the final

Charanjit Singh passed away : Charanjit Singh defeated Pakistan in the final of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He was also part of the Indian team that won silver at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. Born on 20 November 1929, Charanjit Singh was an alumnus of Colonel Brown Cambridge School, Dehradun and Panjab University. After his illustrious career in international hockey, he worked as the Director of the Department of Physical Education at Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla.

Charanjit Singh passed away : Hockey India President Gyanendro Ningombam has condoled the death of Charanjit Singh. He has said that it is a sad day for the hockey fraternity. Even in his old age, he used to talk about hockey every now and then and remember every great moment that was part of the golden days of hockey in India. He was a great halfback who inspired an entire generation of players. He will always be remembered for his incredible skills and his humility off the field.
