NPA increased by 365 percent in Modi government, 10 lakh crore rupees were written off: Supriya Shrinate

New Delhi. The Congress on Tuesday alleged that non-performing assets (NPAs) increased by 365 per cent under the Narendra Modi government and over Rs 10 lakh crore were written off in the last five years. In the last five years, the government has written off NPAs worth Rs 10,09,510 crore, party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate told reporters. Only 13 percent of the loan ie Rs 1,32,000 crore could be recovered.

He said that the value of NPAs written off is about 61 per cent of the fiscal deficit for the financial year 2022-23. Supriya alleged that during the tenure of the Modi government, there has been a jump of 365 percent in NPAs and the amount in cases of willful default has increased from Rs 23,000 crore to Rs 2.4 lakh crore.

He said, in this government, 38 capitalists fled the country after committing a big bank scam. He asked, on what basis the decision to write off the loan of Rs 10,09,510 crore was taken? So far only 13 percent of the written off amount has been recovered, how much recovery is possible? The Congress spokesperson also asked, the industrialists who are being benefited – why their names are not being made public? What is the plan to bring back those who fled the country after doing big scams?
