Symptoms of the rare norovirus infection were reported in 13 students of a veterinary college at Pukode near Vithiri in Wayanad district. After this the college administration sealed the hostel and collected samples of all the students. Norovirus of a girl student has been confirmed in the examination of samples.

Regarding the case of Norovirus infection, State Health Minister Veena George took stock of the situation in Wayanad by holding a meeting of all health officials and directed the officials to intensify efforts to contain the spread of Norovirus. After this, health officials issued a warning saying that there is nothing to worry about at the moment, but given the seriousness of the virus, all people should be especially cautious.

Norovirus does not cause much effect on healthy people, but it can be dangerous for young children, the elderly and people suffering from other serious diseases. It is transmitted from one person to another by coming in contact with an infected person or touching an infected place. The virus is also spread through the feces and vomit of an infected person. As far as treatment is concerned, there is no medicine for it. Adequate fluid intake can compensate for the damage caused by vomiting and diarrhea.
