12000 scholarship to prevent school dropout

New Delhi. Keeping in mind the interests of the students, the Union Ministry of Education has extended the last date for submission of applications for the ‘National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme’ (NMMSS) till October 31. This scholarship scheme has two important purposes. Through this, while financial help is being provided to the financially weak students, efforts are also being made to bring down the school dropout rate.

According to the ministry, under this scheme scholarships are provided to the meritorious students of economically weaker sections so that their drop out in class VIII can be prevented. Along with this, a positive effort is also being made to encourage the students to continue their education up to the secondary level through this scholarship. One lakh new scholarships are given every year for the continuation or renewal of students from class 9 onwards and students studying in state government, government aided and local body schools for classes 10 to 12. This scholarship amount is Rs 12000 per year.

National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) has been integrated on National Scholarship Portal (NSP) which is a one stop platform for scholarship schemes offered to students. The NMMSS scholarships are disbursed directly into the bank accounts of selected students by electronic transfer through Public Financial Management System (PFMS) adopting DBT mode. This is 100% centrally sponsored scheme.

Students whose parents’ income from all sources does not exceed Rs 3,50,000 per annum are eligible to receive this scholarship. To appear in the selection test for the scholarship, students must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class 7 examination (5 per cent relaxation for SC/ST students). The last date for verification of INO level (L1) is November 15, 2022 and the last date for verification of DNO level (L2) is November 30, 2022. (IANS)
