Mulayam Singh’s brother had told the names of three leaders, because of which ‘Netaji’ could not become PM

When the Samajwadi Party got a majority in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav was sitting on the CM’s chair. Father Mulayam Singh Yadav had cleared the way for his political journey in a way by crowning son Akhilesh. This decision of Mulayam, who once proved his mettle in the wrestling arena, was seen as a ‘stake’ in the political corridors. Mulayam Singh Yadav not only rose from the Chief Minister of the country’s largest state to the chair of the Union Minister, but also raised the bigwigs in the arena of politics. However, there was an occasion when Mulayam kept on becoming the Prime Minister.

Mulayam’s younger brother Abhay Ram Yadav, who is farming in his native village away from politics, had mentioned this incident in an interview given to ‘The Lallantop’. Abhay Ram was asked, ‘Mulayam Singh Yadav could not become the Prime Minister. Do you remember what happened at that time?’ In response, Abhay Ram Yadav says, ‘What happened, Lalu had done everything, Sharad Yadav had also joined him and there was a leader too. Mulayam had already become the Prime Minister. The oath was to be taken in the morning and it was done in the night.

Meanwhile, he is again asked the question, ‘Were all the other parties ready? In which Harikishan Surjeet was also there?’ Abhay Ram Yadav says, ‘Everyone was ready. Lalu Prasad Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan and Sharad Yadav did not allow this to happen at the exact moment, otherwise they had become the Prime Minister. First Lalu Prasad Yadav had messed up and then after following him other leaders also started messing up.

The oath was to be taken in the morning: Mulayam Singh Yadav had also mentioned this incident in an interview. He had told, ‘We were to take oath as the Prime Minister at eight in the morning. Thousands of supporters and press people had reached my house. I have never felt any pain that I could not become the Prime Minister. Even after everything was settled, the whole matter had gone haywire.

Let us tell you, in the year 1996, HD Deve Gowda became the Prime Minister in the United Front government. There is such a discussion in the political corridors that before Deve Gowda became the PM, a consensus was reached in the name of Mulayam. Many leaders had opposed Mulayam’s name despite the consensus, after which he could not become the PM. However, Mulayam was made the Defense Minister in Deve Gowda’s government.
