Mamta Banerjee came out in support of Ganguly

Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has come out in support of Sourav Ganguly, the outgoing President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Ganguly should not be treated like this. He has also said that Ganguly should be allowed to contest the International Cricket Council (ICC) elections.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that she was surprised to see former India captain Sourav Ganguly being denied the second term as BCCI president. Talking to reporters at Kolkata airport ahead of her tour of North Bengal, Mamata said she would request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the matter so that Ganguly is allowed to contest for the post of ICC President. He said- Sourav has proved himself to be a capable administrator and I am shocked to see him removed from the post of BCCI President. This is an injustice to them.

The Chief Minister said- I would request the Prime Minister to ensure that Ganguly is allowed to contest for the post of ICC chief. Mamta Banerjee said that there should be no politics in this matter. It is worth noting that Roger Binny, who was part of India’s 1983 World Cup winning team, has been decided to replace Sourav Ganguly as the President of BCCI. It is being told that Ganguly wanted to become the president for the second time as well and the legal hurdle in his way was removed by the Supreme Court. Nevertheless, it was decided to remove him and it was decided to keep Jay Shah as the secretary.
