Major terrorist attack averted in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar. Security forces averted a major terror conspiracy by timely neutralizing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the Handwara-Baramulla Highway in Jammu and Kashmir. The Army said that the IED was defused in a joint operation by them and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday morning after spotting a suspicious object with wires on National Highway 701 near Langate in Jammu and Kashmir. Army and JKP search teams were immediately deployed and security forces cordoned off the area, the army said. He said the army’s explosive sniffer dogs were deployed, which confirmed the presence of the explosives.

The Bomb Disposal Squad of the Indian Army was sent to the spot to neutralize the IED. The Bomb Disposal Squad destroyed an estimated 20 kg of IEDs without causing any damage. The Handwara-Baramulla Highway is an important road for civilian traffic as well as for Army and CAPF convoys. After completely sanitizing the area, the traffic which was stopped on the highway for some time was resumed. (IANS)
